To record and reproduce with a CD-R system carrying a laser beam source of a predetermined wavelength range and to reproduce even with a DVD system by incorporating a phthalocyanine dye and a styryl dye of specific formulae in a recording layer.
A recording layer contains a phthalocyanine dye represented by a formula I and a styryl dye represented by a formula II. In the formula I, R1 to R8 are each a hydrogen, a halogen, or a monovalent organic residue, M is two hydrogens or bivalent to tetravalent metal, and X1, X2 are each a halogen or a monovalent organic residue. In the formula II, A is O, S or CR1R2, wherein R1, R2 are each a lower alkyl group or the like, R3 is a hydrogen or a lower alkyl group, R4, R5 are each an annular structure or a lower alkyl group or the like, R6 is an alkyl group or the like, X is a hydrogen or the like, Z is 1-8C alkylene group, and B is a halogen atom ion or the like. Thus, information can be recorded and reproduced by a laser beam source having a wavelength range of 760 to 800 nm. And it can also be reproduced even with a laser beam source having a wavelength range of 600 to 680 nm.
