Abstract:
PURPOSE:To realize a small-sized, low-loss 1XN electronic optical switch with a high crosstalk attenuation quantity by setting linear polarized light in a specific direction according to the switch state, and then converting the change in the polarized light direction into a change in output position by using two- axial optical crystal and performing switch operation. CONSTITUTION:Light emitted by an input optical fiber 3 is converted by a polarizer 6 into linear polarized light, which is set in a proper direction by PLZT elements 7-1 and 7-2, so that the light is diffracted by the two-axial crystal 8 to one of output optical fibers 4-1...4-4 corresponding to the direction of the polarized light. For the purpose, whether or not there is an electric field to be applied to the PLZT elements 7-1 and 7-2 is controlled to perform the 1X4 switch operation. Further, the direction of the polarized light controlled by the PLZT elements is set to an N direction and the number of output optical fibers is set to N, so the 1XN switch is obtained. Consequently, the small-sized, low-loss 1XN electronic optical switch with the high crosstalk attenuation quantity is obtained.
