Abstract:

To accomplish an XPM suppression means which increases the number of channels, and is small-sized and highly stable.

An optical transmission method includes, on a pre-stage of transmitting a wavelength multiplexed optical signal from a transmitting-side optical transmission apparatus to a transmission line; a wavelength demultiplexing step of demultiplexing the wavelength multiplexed optical signal for each wavelength; a delay time imparting step of imparting a delay time different between at least adjacent channels of the demultiplexed signals; and a wavelength multiplexing step of multiplexing wavelengths of optical signals to which the delay time has been imparted. In the delay time imparting step, when a fundamental delay time difference is defined as T, a delay time difference between a first channel and an n-th channel of the demultiplexed optical signals is set to be iteratively increased at an interval of (k) channels like T, 2T, 3T, ..., kT, 0, T, 2T, 3T, ..., kT, 0, T, ..., ((k) is an integer of1andN/2).
