Title:
OPTICAL TRANSMITTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5797740
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simplify the successive switching of semiconductors, by connecting plural semiconductor lasers different in threshold level in series.

CONSTITUTION: Semiconductor lasers LD1 and LD2 are connected in series, and a resistance R is connected in parallel with the laser LD1 to make the apparent threshold level of the laser LD1 different from that of the laser LD2. Then, when the current value supplied to the laser LD1 exceeds the apparent threshold level by the increment of the threshold current due to the degradation of the laser LD1, the laser LD2 emits the light. Thus, semiconductor lasers are switched successively without requiring a complicated switching device.
