Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide type optical amplifier with which higher density packaging and miniaturization as compared with the conventional optical amplifiers are possible and a process for production of a glass thin film applicable to the optical amplifier.
SOLUTION: The mother phase of the core of the optical waveguide provided with the glass thin film having the core and clad on a substrate contains the oxide of Te and the oxide of at least one kind selected from a group consisting of Zn, Bi, Li, Na, Al, W and La. Further, rare earth ions or transition metal ions are added into at least the core of the optical waveguide described above.
