Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound capable of forming an asymmetric syn thetic reaction catalyst having excellent steric selectivity or position selectivity of reaction and conversion ratio and high catalyst activity by coordinating various transition metals. CONSTITUTION:This compound is represented by formula I (R<1> is H, a 5-7C cycloalkyl, etc.; R<2> is phenyl; R<7> and R<8> are each H, methyl, etc., with the proviso that R<7> and R<8> are not H at the same time) such as (R)-(+)-3- diphenylphosphino-3'-methoxy-4, 4'-biphenanthryl. The compound is obtained, for example, by reacting 3,3'-dihydroxy-4,4'-biphenanthryl of formula II with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid anhydride in a solvent in the presence of a base, reacting the reaction product with a diarylphosphine oxide in a polar solvent in the presence of a base and a Pd-phosphine catalyst, then hydrolyzing the prepared compound of formula III with a base, precipitating with an acid, successively reacting the reaction product with an alkylating agent and reacting the resulting substance with a reducing agent such as trichlorosilane.
