PURPOSE: To obtain an organic peroxide with which a high polymer can be efficiently produced and which is useful in producing a high-strength polymer excellent in flexibility and flowability by reacting a hydrogenated liquid polybutadiene with a dihydroperoxide in a specific manner with the elimination of hydrogen chloride.
CONSTITUTION: The organic peroxide has 1-30 repeating units represented by the formula, wherein R is an ethylene, acetylene, cyclohexylene, or phenylene group and l+m is 6-220, provided that either is 1 or larger. It is obtained by reacting a hydrogenated liquid polybutadiene having a chloroformyloxy group at each end of the molecular chain with a dihydroperoxide containing a divalent hydroperoxy group in the molecule with the elimination of hydrogen chloride in the presence of an alkali or a tertiary amine at a temp. lower than the decomposition temp. of the peroxide linkage to thereby link the two compounds through a peroxycarbonate bond.
