Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a crystal which is large in size, has mechanical strength and has heat resistance and good workability by incorporating a pi electron conjugation system and an org. silicon group into the molecule of an org. silicon compd. CONSTITUTION:The pi electron conjugation system and the org. silicon group are incorporated into the molecule of the org. silicon compd. This compd. contains the pi electron conjugation system operating as a nonlinear polarization and is produced by bonding, for example, a substd. phenyl group with the org. silicon group via an amide group, urea group and carbamoyl piperazino group. Since the compd. contains the org. silicon in such a manner, the results of the large size, the high mechanical strength and the good heat resistance and workability are easily obtd. without degrading the nonlnear optical effect possessed by the substd. phenyl group. The crystal obtd. in such a manner is useful for second harmonic wave generation (SHG) and optical paramentric oscillation (OPO), etc. In addition, the compd. has eventually the linear electrooptic effect and quadratic nonlinear optical effects causing not the variation of refractive index if static electric fields are impressed.
