Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an EL element having a large area, in which surface unevenness of a metallic thin film formed on an organic thin film is little, adhering strength thereof is large, consequently drive voltage is low, initial drive voltage is maintained even in continuous drive, uniformity of luminescence is maintained even in long period operation, luminous efficiency is improved.
CONSTITUTION: An organic thin film 4 is adjacent to a metallic thin film 3, and in an interface between them a first interface layer 7 is formed by processing an interface side surface of at least one of the organic thin film 4 and the metallic thin film 3 with an organic phosphorous compound. Or, an organic thin film 5 is adjacent to a transparent conductive inorganic thin film 2 or an inorganic semiconductor thin film, and in an interface between them a second interface layer 8 is formed by processing an interface side surface of at least one of the organic thin film 5 and the transparent conductive inorganic thin film 2 or the inorganic semiconductor thin film with a silane coupling agent. Or, both of the first interface layer 7 and the second interface layer 8 are formed.
