A pulse wave of a subject is detected by a pulse wave sensor. The detected pulse wave is second order-differentiated to generate a corresponding acceleration pulse wave. The prescribed maximum and minimum points of the generated acceleration pulse wave are made characteristic points. Wave height values of the characteristic points are calculated and the waveheight values of the third and later characteristic points are subtracted from the waveheight value of the second point and the result is divided by the waveheight value of the first point to calculate the blood aging index of the subject. The estimated blood age is calculated by a regression equation of the calculated blood aging index and the preliminarily obtained blood aging index and the age.
