PURPOSE: To provide a novel compound of good symmetry, high in terminal functional group density, having dendritic form, useful as a crosslinking agent for silicone elastomers, addition reaction, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I (R is 1-8C monovalent hydrocarbon; a is 1-3). This compound can be obtained by addition reaction between a chlorosilane of formula II and tetravinylsilane in the presence of a transition metal catalyst (e.g. chloroplatinic acid) at 40-150°C to produce a chlorosilyl group-terminated compound of formula III which, in turn, is reacted with 1,1,3,3- tetramethyldisiloxane in the presence of an acid (e.g. hydrochloric acid) at ≤20°C. The compound of the present invention, when used as a crosslinking agent esp. for silicone elastomers, can improve their curing rate, tensile strength and tear strength.
