To provide an original covering device which can prevent an original from coming up by making a press-contacting sheet member contact closely to the whole surface of the original without receiving any influence from the warping shape of an original pressing plate.

An original covering device which makes an original closely contact to the surface of contact glass 1 is provided with an original pressing plate 4 which presses an original S placed on the surface of the glass 1, a press-contacting sheet member 2 which press-contacts the original S with the surface of the glass 1, and an elastic member 3 which is interposed between the pressing plate 4 and sheet member 2 and fixes the plate 4 and member 2. The press-contacting member 2 is constituted of a flexible resin sheet having a thickness of 0.5-2 mm, flatness of ≤1 mm over the whole area, and flexible rigidity of ≥200 kgf.mm2 and it is planer to the contact glass 1.
