PURPOSE: To improve the activity of a machine by providing a couple of clamping roller and a gate member, and clamping only the front edge part of a succceeding original once a precedent original is fed to a scanning station and then automatically feeding the succeeding original to the scanning station on the scanning of the precedent original.
CONSTITUTION: While a precedent original is scanned at a scanning station 2, a succeeding original is inserted through an original insertion opening and once its front edge part is stopped by a gate 10, the original is detected by a photosensor 15 to release the energizing of a solenoid 11 on the basis of the detection signal, thereby bringing a driven roller 3 and a driving roller 4 into contact to clamp the original. Once the scanning of the preceding original ends, the gate 10 is released by the scanning end signal and at the same time, the driving roller 4 is started to feed the original to the scanning station 2. After the rear end of the original passes the position of a photosensor 16, the gate 10 is closed by the signal to separate the driven roller 3 and driving roller from each other at the same time.
