PURPOSE: To enable the copying of non-format shape and book-like originals as well and to enable the efficient copying of format shape original efficiently in a short time by the constitution wherein a semi-automatic or automatic original feeder can be moved and installed in the place avoiding the space for forward and backward movement in the stage of operating a forward and backward moving original plate.

CONSTITUTION: If a back and forth moving original plate 6 is shifted rightward and a rocking cover 8 is rocked upward, a semi-automatic original feeder 14 is installed on the body 1 of a copying machine. If a manual insertion original 28 is inserted through an insertion port 18 for original, a reflection type sensor 19 operates and a gripper grips the forward end of the original 28, and the body 1 and the feeder 14 operate. Then, an original drum 16 is rotated and driven while the original 28 is wrapped thereon and the image of the original 28 is exposed and scanned to a photoreceptor 5. Copy paper is discharged onto a receiving tray 26 for copying paper. With a book-like original 27, the cover 8 is rocked downward and the original 27 is placed on the platen glass 7 of the plate 6. Push button for starting copying is pressed to operate a limit switch 25 operates and to move the plate 6 back and forth, whereby required copying is accomplished.
