PURPOSE: To automatically provide precision on the degree of the cylinder of a work without depending upon the degree of skill by regulating a shoot position so that a margin is previously offset to the axis position of a work, serving as a reference position, based on measurement.
CONSTITUTION: First, detectors 28 and 30 compute only a value equivalent to 1/2 a margin from a master value so as to measure the axis position of a work 2, runs a pulse motor 15 by means of a command from a computer 24, and lifts the whole of a measuring device 9 to effect positioning. Subsequently, positioning is effected so that data of the detector 28 is adjusted to the same value as a finish grinding size through regulation of the position of a longitudinal swing center rest shoe 14 through operation of a center rest swing pulse motor control device 23 by means of a command from the computer 24 from a computing value based on data detected and measured by the detector 28 and preset master value data. Above control operation is effected times equivalent to the number of center rest means, and by performing traverse grinding by means of a master value serving as a target, an equal finish size is provided in any position of the work 2.
