During the cutting by the cutting machine, a work W is clamped by upper and lower clampers 65 provided on a stopper 63 of a back-gage device 45, and the work is cut by moving and positioning the stopper 63 to a desired position by a stopping and positioning means 53. The upper and lower clampers 65 clamp the work W in cooperation with a lower clamp jaw 67 protruded forward of a lower side of the stopper and an upper clamp jaw 77 protruded forward of a stopping surface of the stopper 63. The lower clamp jaw 67 and the upper clamp jaw 77 provided on the stopper 64 are positioned forward of the cutting position, and positioned forward by the stopping and positioning means 53 to clamp a tip of the cut work W.
