PURPOSE: To provide a packing apparatus which enables setting a roll of film with a large diameter and large weight on a support shaft easily and in a simple manner and which hence makes the need for replacing the roll of film less frequent, increases the efficiency of the packing operation, and does not require the workers to work to excess.

CONSTITUTION: From a roll of film 4 held on a cantilever support shaft provided in a packing apparatus a strip of film is drawn and formed into a tube by a former 6 simultaneously with application of lengthwise seal at the joint of the film. In a packing machine 1 the tube is formed into bags with seal applied breadthways at every unit length for the bag. A transferring means 15 is provided as a means by which the roll of film 4 is supported in a lateral position and guided onto a support shaft in the packing machine 1. A means for adjusting height by which the axis of the support shaft and the axis of the roll of film 4 laid on the transferring means 15 are brought into alignment is provided either in the packing machine 1 or in the transferring means 15 or both in the packing machine 1 and the transferring means 15.
