PURPOSE: To shorten the time required to draw out a sheet tray into a sheet takeout position so as to improve the use efficiency of a device by adding the process of moving the sheet tray automatically into the lowest limit position at the time of printing being stopped.
CONSTITUTION: Sheets 18 printed in a printer are discharged into a stacker through a folding device and a feed roller 15 and stacked successively in the folded state on a sheet tray 19. At this time, a sensor arm 12 is pushed up on the upper face of the sheets 18, and the sheet tray 19 is gradually lowered by a lift 17 so that a shielding plate 13 does not intercept the transmission light of a photo interrupter 7. A sheet receiving position is thereby held always to the appropriate position. When printing is stopped, the lift 17 and the sheet tray 19 are lowered into the lowest limit position where a reed switch 8b is turned on, and then a motor 11 is stopped. In this state, the sheet tray 19 is placed on a drawer 20, and the sheets can be taken out immediately by the operation of the switch.
