The paper sheet holding mechanism 15 that stores paper sheets B stacked in the thickness direction D and switches between holding and releasing of paper sheets in the paper sheet cassette 6 that can be attached to and detached from the body 2 includes first guide member and second guide member 25 that can abut against paper sheets in such a manner as to sandwich them from the direction perpendicular to the thickness direction, a biasing member 26 for biasing the second guide member 25 to the first guide member side, and a moving member 28 which is connected to the second guide member and, when the paper sheet cassette is mounted on the body, moves the second guide member away from paper sheets by abutting against an abutting part 51 of the body and moving against biasing force of the biasing member.
