To provide a paper sheet sorting device that can correct gap length between mail without causing the jam and damage to the mail at a driver part for correcting gap length associated with the start and stop of a conveying path.
This paper sheet sorting device is provided with a branch conveying path 21 provided with a switching gate 22 at an intermediate part of a main conveying path 20; a driver 25 provided at the branch conveying path 21 so as to be able to increase or reduce speed of mail in relation to specified speed; and means used to set the speed so that mail 101b is not retained directly below the driver 25 at the instant of the conveying path being stopped, to switch the switching gate 22 to the main conveying path 20 side at the time of stop so as to convey the following mail on the main conveying path 20 and then to switch the switching gate 20 again to the branch conveying path 21 side when gas length between the mail becomes the fixed value or more at the time of restarting.
