Abstract:

PURPOSE: To execute partial plating of an ornamental article having good adhesiveness by plating a base metal to a blank material for the ornamental article, covering the surface thereof with a resist in the required part, removing the base metal plating in the exposed part with a chemical then plating a noble metal thereon.

CONSTITUTION: The base metal such as copper or nickel is plated 2 on the surface of the blank material 1 for the ornamental article of a wristwatch, etc. An epoxy resin or the like is printed thereon or the photoresist is coated thereon and is subjected to exposure and development to form a prescribed pattern 3. The part where the base metal plating 2 is exposed is dissolved away by using the chemical such as nitric acid or ferric chloride soln. and immediately thereafter the material is rinsed and the noble metal such as gold is plated 4 thereon to the substantial thickness. The resist of the pattern 3 is thereafter stripped by a resist stripping liquid contg. methylene chloride, formic acid, surface active agent, etc., by which the partially plated ornamental article having the fine pattern is obtd.
