Title:
PARTIALLY METHYLATED CYCLODEXTRIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2643107
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a partially methylated β-cyclodextrin having a water solubility being higher than that of a perfectly methylated product and increasing with an increasing temperature by specifying its Rf value and specifying the degrees of methylation of the respective hydroxyl groups of a structural glucose unit.
CONSTITUTION: This partially methylated β-cyclodextrin is one represented by the formula (wherein R is H or CH3), having an Rf value of 0.30 when analyzed by silica gel thin-layer chromatography and having the following degrees of methylation of the respective hydroxyl groups of a structural glucone unit: 52.8% at position 2, 40.6% at position 3 and 77.4% at position 6 when they are estimated by gas chromatography after the pretreatment. Cyclodextrin (hereinbelow abbreviated as CD) is difficultly soluble in water and an organic solvent. Although known perfectly methylated β-CD has an improved water solubility, it has a drawback that its solubility decreases with an increasing temperature. The above partially methylated β-CD has a water solubility being higher than that and increasing contrarily with an increasing temperature.
