Abstract:
To provide a particle acceleration technique capable of reducing the size of an accelerator and improving the acceleration gradient for accelerating particles.SOLUTION: A particle accelerator 1 includes a beam source 2 that outputs charged particles, at least two plate-like acceleration electrodes 3 arranged along a beam line 6 with an opening 7 formed in a portion corresponding to the beam line 6 through which the charged particles pass, and a voltage pulse generation mechanism 4 that generates a pulsed voltage to be applied to the previous acceleration electrode 3 during the period until the charged particles pass through the previous acceleration electrode 3 and reach the next acceleration electrode 3.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
