To enable quick finding and guiding of a recommended path to the destination from the current position of own vehicle by an index data finding means for finding paths by using a network data for finding paths and an index data for finding paths.
An index data finding means 5 for finding paths firedes a recommended path between two points set by a path finding control means 3 using an index data for finding paths previously stored into an index data memory means 7 for finding paths. So, the path finding control means 3 uses a road network data of main roads, a road network data for finding paths as information pertaining to the network data and an index data for finding paths as previously stored into a road network data memory means 6 for finding paths and an index data memory means 7 for finding paths to control the operation of the index data finding means 5 for finding paths. Thus, the recommended path to the destination from the current position is found step by step and the recommended path obtained is transmitted to a presentation means 8.
