PURPOSE: To obtain the pattern collating device which is small in arithmetic quantity without any deterioration in pattern collating capability.

CONSTITUTION: The pattern collating device is equipped with an integrated candidate detecting means 36 which detects candidates composed of arrangement of the same standard patterns as their latter half parts as integrated candidates when cumulative distance value corresponding to the respective latter half parts have the same difference during certain time width, and removes those integrated candidates except one from a collating indication means 34, an integrated candidate storage means 37 which stores the combination of the integrated candidates and the difference in cumulative distance value, and a result output means 46 which obtains the cumulative distance value of the candidates removed by the collating indication means from the difference between the cumulative distance value of the finally remained candidate and the cumulative distance in the integrated candidate storage means 37, and determines and outputs the collating results of respective candidates.
