PURPOSE: To provide a pointing device which does not need an operation space and can obtain an operation sense nearer to the sense of human beings.

CONSTITUTION: A writing utensil mounting a pen grip 22 is held by a hand and force is applied to fingers like drawing a line in the direction of the movement of a cursor (a line is not needed to be actually drawn). The pressure of the fingers are measured by magnetic sensors 28a to 28c to be imparted to CPU as a voltage value. CPU calculates the movement direction and the movement distance of the cursor based on the voltage value. Receiving it, the cursor moves to the position and at the time of pushing a function switch 29, the position of the cursor is established.
