To obtain a pest-controlling agent having high safety to a user and controlling activities against a pest, hardly providing chemical injury to an applied crop, and having wide application range by including an alginic acid salt or an alginic acid ester, and a specific nonionic surfactant.
This pest-controlling agent contains (A) an alginic acid salt (the one usually capable of being dissolved or swelled by water, e.g. a monovalent salt such as sodium salt, potassium salt and ammonium salt) or an alginic acid ester (e.g. propylene glycol ester of the alginic acid or a metal salt thereof), and (B) a nonionic surfactant having ≤10 HLB value (preferably the nonionic surfactant substantially consisting of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, more preferably an ethylene oxide adduct of a higher alcohol having ≤10 HLB value, or a fatty acid ester of sorbitan having ≤10 HLB value). The weight ratio of the components A to B is ordinary regulated so as to be (5:1)-(1:5).
