Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the phase transition-type optical recording medium which enables ≥1000000 times of rewriting by preventing the damage of a protective layer formed in contact with a recording layer.

CONSTITUTION: This recording medium has the reflection protective layer 7 formed to limit the irradiation of both sides of the pits 10 forming regions with a laser beam between a polycarbonate substrate 1 and the lower protective layer 2. The damage of the recording materials on both sides of the pit 10 forming regions susceptible to the damage by the direct irradiation with the laser beam, is, therefore prevented. The reading out errors, etc., occurring in this damage are eliminated and, therefore, 1000000 times of rewriting is made possible.
