NEW MATERIAL: A compd. expressed by formula I [(n) is 0, 1, 2, 3; R is a halogen, a (substd.) alkyl, an alkoxy, etc.; R1 to R3 are each a (substd.) alkyl, a cycloalkyl, phenyl, benzyl; X is an anion].
EXAMPLE: Chlorinated [2-(4-chlorophenyl)-thiazol-4-ylmethyl]-triphenyl phosphonium.
USE: A sterilizing agent.
PROCESS: A benzonitriles expressed by, for example, formula II, is brought into reaction with hydrogen sulfide to form thiobenzamide and thereafter, a 1,3- dichloracetone is brought into reaction to form a compd. of formula III, which is then heated in polyphosphoric acid to effect ring closure reaction to obtain a compd. of formula IV (L is an eliminable group which may be separated as an anion). Next, this compd. is brought into reaction with a phosphine expressed by formula V, by which the compd. of formula I is obtd.
