NEW MATERIAL:A photochromic compound shown by formula I (R1WR6 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, aralkyl, allyl, pyryl, furyl, thienyl, thiazolyl, amino, cyano, nitro, ester, amido or trifluoromethyl).
EXAMPLE: cis-1,2-Dimethyl-1,2-bis(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolyl)ethene.
USE: Useful for various photochromic compounds and a sensitized material. This compound is a novel ethene compound containing an oxazole ring in the structure, has excellent thermal stability, durability to repetition and is preservable in a clear coloring state even in the case of standing for many hours when writing and erasing are repeated.
PREPARATION: A compound shown by formula II is reacted with a compound shown by formula III to give a compound shown by formula I.
