The invention relates to the method for treatment or prophylaxis of neoplastic disorders of patients comprising (a) a process providing a therapeutically or prophylactically active composition comprising a physiologically stable butyric acid salt or a derivative of the butyric acid composed of less than 8 carbon atoms and a pharmacologically acceptable carrier, wherein the composition is substantially free from sodium, and (b) administering the composition to the patients.
