To make improvements in reliability in paper discharge operation by securing such a pickup roller as capable of increasing the extent of frictional force, without enhancing the pressure-contact force of paper to this pickup roller.
In a pickup roller 9, coming into pressedly contact with the uppermost layer paper 7 stacked on a paper cassette 1 in piles, and discharging the uppermost layer paper 7 piece by piece from the paper cassette 1 in conjunction with a separating means installed in this cassette 1 by a rotation in the paper feeding direction, an adhesive layer 13 with adhesive force is formed on the circumference of this pickup roller 9. This adhesive layer 13 is formable by sticky rubber with the adhesive force of more than 5g/cm2. In this connection, this adhesive layer 13 may be such one that is made up of a pressure sensitive adhesive double coated tape with the adhesive force of more than 5g/cm2.
