PURPOSE: To simplify operator's operation and to shorten the time required for operation by providing this picture editing device with a processing means for reading out a picture corresponding to a retrieving title from an original binder stored in a storing means and then storing the read contents in a binder to be copied in the storing means.

CONSTITUTION: A CPU 34 deforms stored contents to the title structure of a copied binder side along the contents of a specified table 38a, prepares the title of the copied binder side and stores the title in a main memory 38. Then the CPU 34 reads out the address of each page (picture) corresponding to the 1st title of an original binder from a page managing table 26b, reads out the picture stored in the read address from an optical disk 20 and stores the read contents in a storage area of the disk 20 which corresponds to the copied binder. Since it is unnecessary for an operator to input the title of each document and the title of the copied binder can be automatically determined, operator's labor can be saved and copying time can be shortened.
