PURPOSE: To form simply a composite still picture comprising shrinked still obtained from compressing plural still picture images through compression respectively by processing of compression for a still picture signal reproduced by a moving magnetic head and recording it on a specific track through the use of a fixed magnetic head in a prescribed timing.

CONSTITUTION: A still picture signal Vin is recorded on a specific track by applying a horizontal/vertical synchronizing signal in the still picture signal Vin reproduced by a magnetic head 13 to a fixed magnetic head 12 on the 1st circumference of a magnetic sheet 11. A signal of a horizontal period in the said still picture signal Vin is stored in an arithmetic unit 16 at the same time. When the processing to one still picture is finished, the movement in the track is informed to the arithmetic unit 16 as a signal SP. Similar processing is applied to still pictures obtained from a separately selected track and a compressed still picture is written to a picture position of the said specific track.
