Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a piston for an engine which can be manufactured in a simple manner and has no risk of a piston skirt being drawn off when a fiber-reinforced resin is used for the piston skirt.
CONSTITUTION: The piston for an engine is of a structure equipped, at the opposite side to a crown surface 12a of a piston crown 12, with a piston pin boss 13 and a piston skirt 24, the piston skirt 24 being supported by a rib 26. It is a piston 21 for engine which is of a piston skirt 24 and rib 26 structure wherein respective core portions of the piston skirt 24 and the rib 26 are formed by bored thin metal skeleton members 14, 16, the members 14, 16 being clad with fiber-reinforced resins 23, 25.
