PURPOSE: To produce pitch-coating material as manufacturing raw material, capable of reducing the number of times of impregnation and calcination of carbonaceous material, etc., having high density, by coating the surface of carbonaceous material or ceramic material, with petroleum or coal pitch through a specified org. compd.
CONSTITUTION: The petroleum or coal pitch (especially bulk mesophase having 280W350°C Mettler softening point is useful), the compd. of formula and carbonaceous material are mixed. Then, the mixture is stirred at 200W500°C, preferably 250W450°C for a fixed time under an inert atmosphere to obtain the targeted coating material. The amt. of pitch coating the carbonaceous material, etc., can be controlled by the concn. of pitch raw material and the volume ratio of the mixed liq. to carbonaceous material or ceramic material. As the compd. of formula, p-methylbenzyldiphenyl methane is exemplified.
