To provide a technique capable of reducing the cost by eliminating the need of providing an electromagnetic wave shield layer, a filter or the like on the front side of a panel and especially, coping with the generation of a moire pattern on a panel display surface.

The PDP (transmission type PDP) includes for instance, a back part having a lateral display electrode pair (X and Y), a front part having a longitudinal address electrode and a display surface, a longitudinal light transmissive partition and a phosphor layer. The potential of the address electrode is kept constant for a display period. Thus, a layer (first shield layer 101) by a longitudinal stripe-like address electrode functions as an electromagnetic wave shield. Further, a layer (second shield layer 102) by a lateral stripe-like electrode pattern can be arranged on the front surface of the panel. The generation of a moire pattern is prevented by the superpositions (103a and 103b) of the above-mentioned two layers.
