PURPOSE: To realize a card substantially free of the possibility of erasure of stored information, easy to handle and low in cost, by providing a reflective film on a flat plate of an inexpensive material, e.g., a synthetic resin or aluminum, recording information by forming recessed parts in the reflective film, and covering the reflective film by a coating layer so colored as to make the recessed parts invisible.
CONSTITUTION: A bar code representing predetermined information or the like as well as a card number or the like is recorded by forming recessed parts 2 in a flat surface of a flat plate 1 of aluminum which has parallel flat surfaces and a size approximate to the size of a calling card. The recording can be performed by, for example, irradiating the flat plate with argon laser. A transparent synthetic resin protective film 3 is provided on the flat plate surface in which the information is thus recorded by providing the recessed parts. Then, for example, a black-colored synthetic resin coating layer 4 is provided on the protective film. Though the recessed parts in the reflective film can not be visually recognized from the outside, upon irradiation with a laser beam having a predetermined intensity, the laser beam is transmitted through the coating layer to reach the reflective film. The laser beam reflected by the reflective film is again transmitted through the coating layer to be detected by a light receiving means, whereby the recorded data consisting of the recessed parts in the reflective film is read. Thus, a card can be obtained which is low in cost and easy to handle.
