PURPOSE: To increase a reliability, to make a device immune from fatigue and to attain a control by executing the position detection of a pointing device main body from each time until the sound successively generated from respective sound generating parts is received at a sound receiving part.

CONSTITUTION: When a sound is successively generated from plural respective sound generating parts 4 provided at a computer system 3 side, each time until respective sounds are received by a sound receiving part 2 provided at a pointing device main body 1 is measured by a measuring part 5. The position of the pointing device main body 1 is detected by the time. Thus, a pointing device is obtained which is high in reliability, made immune from fatigue and can execute a fine control.
