In this polishing method for a quartz resonator, a rectangular quartz piece and a polishing agent are put in the polishing vessel, the main surface of the quartz piece is polished along the inner peripheral curved surface having a circular section to the axis of rotation, to thereby form curved surfaces both in the longitudinal direction and cross-direction of the quartz piece. The curvature in the cross direction is made different from the curvature of the central section to the axis of rotation in the polishing vessel. In the polishing vessel for the quartz resonator, in which the rectangular quartz piece and the polishing agent are contained, the section to the axis of rotation is circular, and the main surface of the quartz piece is polished according to the inner peripheral curved surface in the rotating direction, the curvature in the cross direction is made different from the curvature of the inner peripheral curved surface in the rotating direction.
