To provide a polymer-fixed optically active diamine compound which can be easily recovered after reaction and can be reused as an asymmetrical ligand, to provide a polymer transition metal complex compound, and to provide a method for producing an optically active alcohol.
A halomethylstyrene copolymer is obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing 0.01 to 0.5 mol of (1a) a halomethylstyrene, 0.1 to 0.9 mol of (2a) styrene, and 0 to 0.2 mol of (3a) divinylbenzene. The polymer-fixed optically active diamine compound is obtained by reacting the copolymer with (4a) an optically active 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenylethylenediamine compound in the presence of a base. Compounds (1a), (2a), (3a), and (4a) are shown in the formula. The polymer transition metal complex compound is prepared from the diamine compound and a compound of a transition metal of group VIII in the periodic table. The method comprises catalytically reducing a carbonyl compound with hydrogen in the presence of the complex compound.
