To obtain a PVA-base phase difference film excellent in discoloration and heat resistances and well exhibiting its function even when various functional layers are laminated by specifying a half-width, which is a value at the heat absorption peak of the fusion curve of a PVA-base phase difference film measured with a differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), within a specific value.
This PVA-base phase difference film has ≤10°C half-width at the heat absorption peak of the fusion curve measured with DSC. It is preferable that the film has 95-99.9 wt.% residue on heating at 105°C and at this time, its action and effect can be remarkably exhibited. The residue on heating is calculated by the formula (W/W0)×100% (where W is the weight of the film after heating at 105°C for 2 hr and W0 is the weight of the film before heating). The pref. average polymn. degree of PVA resin as the material of the film is 1,000-6,000.
