PURPOSE: To variously select the cross-sectional shape of a porous carrier by setting the wave heights of the corrugated sheet at least in the outer periph eral region of the porous carrier to constitution so that high parts and low parts coexist.
CONSTITUTION: In a prous carrier of constitution such that flat sheets 2 and corrugated sheets 3 are laminated and wound, the wave heights of the corrugated sheet 1 at least in the outer peripheral region of said carrier are constituted so that high and low parts coexist. For example, in the corrugated sheet, the relation between the wave height ha of the wave parts 1a positioned on the Y-line in the short-axis direction of the oval cross-sectional shape of a catalyst carrier and the wave height hn of the wave parts 1n positioned on the X-line in the long axis direction thereof is set to ha > hn and, between the wave parts 1a and the wave parts 1n, wave heights hb - hd - are changed so as to become small continuously. As a result, the cross-sectional shape of the porous carrier of constitution wherein the flat sheets and the corrugated sheets are laminated and wound can be variously selected.
