To provide a porous material which has a sufficient heat resistance without firing at a high temperature, is improved in strength and is excellent in low pressure loss, acid resistance and heat resistance in the case of being used as a filter material, and also to provide a production method therefor.
This porous material is composed by binding aggregate with a calcium silicate-based material and has the Mode fine pore size of 10% or more of an aggregate particle diameter. The method for production thereof comprises adding water of 5-20 wt.% in an outer addition percentage to the aggregate and a binder of a predetermined amount, kneading, forming the moisture-controlled kneaded material, and then hydrothermally synthesizing the formed body at a temperature of 150-300°C for 4-100 hr.
