If there is an incoming call when mail is being edited on the portable terminal device, a control portion 60 keeps the mail edit function active and displays information associated with the incoming call on a sub-LCD display portion 7 or an LCD display portion 16 separate from the LCD display portion 12 on which mail editing is in progress. Therefore, the user is prevented from passing over what the user is now editing the mail after the completion of the telephone conversation. Furthermore, the user can continue mail editing even when the user is carrying out telephone conversation, and can store mail in a storage portion 50 and program transmission so that the mail will be automatically transmitted after the completion of the telephone call.
