PURPOSE: To increase the detecting accuracy and at the same time to decrease the power consumption for a flat plate type position detector, by detecting the potential of a conductive electrode which is in contact with plural thin electrode elements and ten detecting the pressed position.
CONSTITUTION: An electrode plate 6 is formed in a plane form by laminating alternately the thin electrode elements 3-1W3-n and 5-1W5-n and the thin insulated members 4-1W4-n. A conductive plate 7 is in close contact with the plate 6. Then the different potentials are applied to those thin electrode elements respectively by means of a means such as a resistance voltage dividing circuit, etc. Thus the potential of the thin electrode element is transmitted to the plate 7 at the pressed area and only when pressure is applied. The pressed position is detected by detecting the potential of the plate 7. As a result, the equipotential line distribution can be set at each part within the position detecting surface in an accurate, parallel and even way.
