To accurately display the position of a mobile object such as a human being which employs various moving means on a map with high precision.
An estimating unit 3 estimates the moving means adopted by the human being based on a moving speed retrieved from a speed sensor 2. A controller 4 selects a suitable map in response to the moving means utilizing by the person based on an estimated result by the unit 3, and starts a map matching unit in response to the selected map. The started map matching units 10 to 12 suitably perform map matching in response to the moving means (on foot, a bicycle or an automobile) by checking the person's position information against the map, and returns the result to the controller 4. The controller 4 plots on the map selecting the person's position based on the result of the map matching and displays the map on a display unit 5.
