To provide a power conversion apparatus capable of raising a power factor of a power supply input current and miniaturizing a reactor through simple feed forward control involving only voltage detection.
A power conversion apparatus 1 includes a rectification circuit 3 for rectifying a polyphase AC power source 2, a step-up chopper circuit 4 which is connected to the output of the rectification circuit 3, and a smoothing capacitor 5 which is connected to the output of the step-up chopper circuit 4. The power conversion apparatus 1 is equipped with a first voltage detector 10 for detecting an output voltage of the rectification circuit 3, a second voltage detector 11 for detecting a terminal voltage of the smoothing capacitor, and a control circuit 12 which allows an average value of a voltage across both ends of a switch 8 of the step-up chopper circuit 4 to be the same voltage as the output voltage of the rectification circuit by controlling a conduction period of the switch 8 of the step-up chopper circuit 4 based on the ratio between the detection voltage of the first voltage detector 10 and that of the second voltage detector 11.
