NEW MATERIAL:A Δ2-1,2,4-triazolin-5-one derivative of formula I.
EXAMPLE: 1-(2,4-Dichloro-5-methoxyphenyl)-Δ2-1,2,4-triazoline-5-one.
USE: Useful as a raw material of an agricultural and horticultural fungicide, especially a raw material of a compound useful as an agent for controlling sheath blight of rice plant.
PROCESS: The reaction of the compound of formula II with the compound of formula III in an inert solvent such as benzene, methanol, etc. with heating affords the compound of formula IV, which can be converted to the objective compound of formula I by the ring-closing reaction in the presence of a base such as pyridine, trimethylamine, etc. A compound useful for the control of sheath blight of rice plant can be obtained by reacting the compound of formula I with a halogenating agent in an inert solvent with heating, and reacting the resulting compound with the compound of formula V in the presence of a base.
