Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the title substance useful as remedies for angina pectoris readily in high yield without forming by-products, by reacting available nitrobenzaldehyde with methyl aminocrotonate in an inert solvent.

CONSTITUTION: One mole of 2-nitrobenzaldehyde is reacted with at least 2 moles, preferably 2.0W3.0 moles, of methyl 3-aminocrotonate in an inert solvent, e.g. a lower alkanol, such as methanol or ethanol, at room temperature to 100°C to give the objective compound, which may be brought into contact with the corresonding acid in a suitable solvent by the conventional method to form a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
